Sharjah has launched an artificial intelligence-driven parking system to manage over 90,000 parking spaces across the city.

The initiative, announced by the Sharjah Municipality, aims to revolutionise urban mobility, ease congestion, and enhance the overall parking experience.

The cutting-edge system leverages AI to automatically register vehicle license plates upon entry into parking areas.

How it works

Drivers can check parking fees and pay digitally using the “Mawqef” app, which supports credit card and e-wallet payments. The app also allows users to view available parking spaces, eliminating the need to circle around in search of a spot.

For frequent parkers, Sharjah offers flexible subscription plans that cater to varying needs, ranging from daily passes to year-long options. The system ensures convenience at every step, empowering residents and visitors alike with a streamlined parking experience.

Convenience redefined

One of the standout features of the system is its 72-hour grace period. Drivers have three days to settle parking fees before fines are issued, providing added flexibility for those with busy schedules.

Payments can be made quickly and securely through the Mawqef app, removing the hassle of cash transactions or payment kiosks.

Smart mobility in action

The introduction of this AI-powered parking system is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Sharjah by minimising the time motorists spend searching for parking spaces. By automating the process, the city aims to improve traffic flow and promote efficient urban mobility.

Flexible subscriptions

To cater to diverse parking needs, the system offers long-term subscription options. Drivers can choose from daily, monthly, or yearly passes, providing a customised solution for regular commuters and occasional visitors alike.

Future-focused innovation

This initiative underscores Sharjah’s commitment to smart city advancements and sustainability. By integrating AI into everyday services, the city is taking a proactive approach towards modernising its infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions. With this innovation, Sharjah sets an example of how technology can be harnessed to simplify urban living.
